TALES OF AN UBER DRIVER
What a great decision I made to become an Uber driver while I complete my Bachelor's degree.  Now that I've been driving for a couple of weeks, my experience is enhancing my work!  Yes, I said work!  It turns out that work can be fun, who knew?  I never know what to expect.  I shower, brush my teeth, use mouth wash, dress nice, put make-up on and grab a bottle of water to hit the road (no perfume) - I was told that perfume could turn people off.  The first couple of nights I drove I didn't wear make-up because I didn't think it would matter, I was wrong.  If I look like I'm going out, like one of the people that I'm taking to dinner, a club, a bar or a party then the response is positive.  Since they have a description of my car and my name, when I pull up they scream "HEY BELINDA" like we're old buddies and I just stopped by to give them a ride.  They hop in the car, if someone comes around to my side then I will get out and open the door for them, they like that.

JACQUELINE MADE MY NIGHT
Last night's awesome final ride of the evening!  The very beautiful Jacqueline from Illinois, (strong resemblance to Angelina Jolie), and her two roommates needed a ride from Laguna Beach to San Clemente.  On a personal note, I like to listen to music loud, however, when I have riders in the car my radio is very low, almost inaudible, just to have some music in the background.  Jacqueline took it to a whole new level and cranked up the volume, we all sang along with Katy Perry's "Hot N Cold" "Bad Blood" by Taylor Swift, Hey Mama" by Nicki Minaj and then "Push It" by Salt N Pepa.  The two guys that were in the back seat, Jacqueline's roommates, Ryan and Addy were having fun and singing too!  When we arrived at the destination, we said our good-bye's and Ryan (about 25 years old) actually hit on me, I am beyond flattered.  He said "I'd like to hang out with you, I'd like to see you again" and I said "check out my blog" and he said "That's not what I meant, you don't understand, I want to hang out."  I smiled and said "Have a great night Ryan" and he walked away. Sorry Ryan, you are cute and seemed nice but seriously too young.

MILITARY MEN...
Two couples got into the car for a ride from Laguna Beach to Aliso Viejo.  I cannot remember the last time that I laughed that much.  Each of the guys were in the military, they were very fine looking men 30'ish and their girlfriends were smokin' hot!!!  They told me stories that made me laugh so hard I had tears.  I would not be able to do those stories any justice, but trust me they were funny! (the pic is not the guys that were in my car, I added it for a nice visual).

GUY FROM BOSTON
This guy was visiting Chicago and needed to get
to Wrigley Field, his Uber driver said "I could take you there, and I would be happy to take all of your money, but instead, if you want, I can take you to the train station and you will get there a lot faster and a lot cheaper.  The passenger was so grateful that he gave the driver a very large tip.  When he was done telling me the story, we talked  bit and then arrived at this destination, his fare was $7 and he gave me a $20 tip.  Wow, I was so grateful and in need of the cash because I had to put gas in the car.  Thank you nice guy from Boston that lives in Aliso Viejo.

50 SHADES OF GREY
I picked up John at Mozambique Restaurant on S. Coast Highway, he was going to take the ride alone, but there were three people there that he offered a ride to.  John asked "Hey, do you guys want a ride?" they said yes, they were only going 3 blocks down S. Coast Highway.  So they hopped in, two girls in the back with John, and this absolutely gorgeous guy with ash blonde hair, and startling deep blue eyes in the front with me. The pic on the right is not him, but similar in looks.  When I dropped them off, the guy said thank you so much, he grabbed a wad of money from his pocket, I asked for his name, and he handed me a $20 bill and slowly made eye contact and said "it's Christian, thank you for the ride" and got out of the car.  I had a moment, and then took John home.

Uber Tale of the Day - My rider location is in the water LOL

"Just another day at the office"
Montage Resort Beach - 15 minutes from home... we live in Paradise

The Office

A DAY AT THE OFFICE
Today I dropped these 4 beauties off at the Montage Resort beach, (my daughter and her friends) and I decided to work for a few hours while they play.  Yes, going to the beach would have been nice, but having the beach as my office... not too shabby!
RIDER IN THE WATER
I drove along the coast and received an ride request from Richard in Dana Point.  Since the request was from the harbor, I didn't think anything of the little guy in the water, but it looked funny, so I did a screen shot.  I looked everywhere in the docks and harbor, no Richard, so  I canceled.  A minute after I ended the the ride, I got another request from Richard, this time at a different location, but nearby.  This happened a total of three times (3 different locations).  Either someone was screwing with me or they were walking around, in any case, I still made $12 ($4 for each canceled ride) and got a laugh.

How much Money Can I make Driving for Uber?

That is the number 1 question that I get, so I would like to address it with detail.

But the short answer is that you can comfortably make $25-30 per hour once you know how to do it.  In the beginning you will probably make $15-20 per hr.  Also, when you use my invite code: wqpzjue you will instantly make $200 once you are approved.

Give yourself a week or two of driving to get the hang of it, there are a few things that you will need to learn.  During my first weekend I made $264 + a $4 cash tip.  I worked 3 hours Friday, 5.5 hrs Saturday night and 6.5 hrs Sunday night.  I could have done SOOOO much better, but I was learning.

You have to learn things like:

Where are the hot spots?

For me it's Town Center in Aliso Viejo

What time does my area surge?

Very late, between 11PM and 2AM

If my area doesn't surge, where is the best place for me to go for a surge?

Laguna Beach and San Juan Capistrano

How to speak with riders to make them smile.

Learn to read their body language, let them guide the conversation and pick up on the queues when they don't want to talk.  Prove your listening by commenting on what they say.

Once you learn those basics, you will improve your earning potential.

If you have any questions of comments, please leave them in the comments section below.

July 15, 2015 Tales from the past week

I'M HAPPY...
Uber is a fantastic job, and like with any other job, there are stories to tell.  Everyday I meet fun, unusual and interesting people.  I'm happy to see that so many people are staying safe by using Uber when they are drunk.  The drunk passengers are funny, and are usually going to another bar to continue the party, and they are still smart enough to know that they cannot drive.  Great job riders!!!

MY FIRST FUNNY AND UNFORGETTABLE RIDE AS AN UBER DRIVER
Saturday night I picked up a couple at a fancy resort, they were celebrating their 6 month anniversary, they were in love, very drunk and very funny.  They wanted to stop at the gas station to buy cigarettes, so I stopped and with that they started saying (very loudly) "You're the best Uber driver we ever had, we love you, you should come out with us."  Then the female, I will call her Bridget, climbed from the back seat to the front seat while I was driving and asked me for my name, I said "Belinda" and she tried very hard to pronounce it and ended up with "Mellllliiinnnnddddaaaa, Melinda, Muhlyndaaaa" I said it's with a "B" like Bridget, and she took my hand and slurred out "OMG Bridget, that's my name too."  It went on like this for about 15 minutes, it was so funny.  At the end just before I dropped them off I played my CD and put on Aretha Franklin's "Respect" and the three of us sang very loudly and laughed, Bridget held up an imaginary microphone for everyone.  They invited me to go to the next bar with them and said "You are our new friend."  They made me smile, cute couple.

DO YOU KNOW WHERE CIRCLE K IS?
Last night I had the shortest drive so far, I picked a guy up at his home, I could smell the alcohol.  He very calmly, with a serious tone and a slight slur said "Do you know where Circle K is?"  and I said no.  He guided me to Circle K, about 1 mile away, he asked me to wait, he came back with a couple of 6 packs, and I took him back home. That was it!

EXPLORING IS FUN
In just one week I have seen some of the most beautiful homes I have ever seen in my life and in neighborhoods that I didn't know existed.
